Our latest auction catalogue contains a fine selection of rare and unusual books, photographs, maps and ephemera. Particular strengths of the sale are Indigenous Australiana, exploration and travel, and Australian history, with small but choice offerings of maps, militaria, and vintagephotographs, including photographically illustrated books.
Specific highlights include a fine complete set of Carl Strehlow's Die Aranda- und Loritja-Stämme, together with his son Theodor's magnum opus, Songs of Central Australia (two copies, one signed); all of Spencer and Gillen's works; and the major works of Charles Mountford (several signed).
There are early newspapers with significant exploration content; Federation ephemera; a huge oil painting of SY Aurora of Antarctic fame; items signed by Alexander von Humboldt, J.D. Hooker (and Douglas Mawson), George Fife Angas, George Giffen, Frank Worrell, and numerous others; many very scarce early local histories; and a host of genuinely interesting publications across a wide range of subjects.
