London, George Allen and Unwin, 1955 (fourth impression)/ July 1954; 1956 (fourth impression)/ 1954; and 1955 (second impression)/ October 1955.
Octavo, three volumes, viii, 423, (colophon); 352 (first leaf blank); and 416 (first two leaves blank) pages with a colour map in the first volume plus a large folding colour map tipped in at the rear of each volume.
Red cloth, top edges red (as issued); price-clipped dustwrappers; individual descriptions as follows. First volume: edges (and some leading margins) foxed; a very good copy with the dustwrapper sunned on the spine, with a small inkspot near the head of the front hinge. Second volume: edges lightly foxed, endpapers moderately so, with the front one a little offset; a very good copy with the dustwrapper lightly sunned and bumped on the spine, and with two tiny marks on the front panel. Third volume: bottom corners of the covers bumped; edges lightly foxed, endpapers moderately so, with offsetting to both of them; a very good copy with the dustwrapper a little sunned on the spine and front panel, a little marked on the rear panel, and with a small amount of trifling surface silverfish damage (and a minute hole) near the bottom corner of the front panel, and some slight loss to the rear flap near the hinge.
Overall, this is a very presentable early example of the preferred original presentation of the complete three-volume edition, and cheap at the price.
