Octavo, two volumes, lii, 506 and viii (last blank), 364, ccxxxiv (last colophon) pages with 2 pages of woodcut illustrations plus 6 lithographs (3 tinted, one extensively hand-coloured; the second frontispiece with a tiny light marginal stain) and 2 folding hand-coloured lithographed maps (one expertly repaired, with slight loss to the left-hand edge of the key).

Early half calf gilt and cloth, the spines gilt-decorated in compartments, with contrasting leather title-labels; leather slightly marked, with minor surface loss; marbled edges (the leading edge of one volume is unobtrusively ink-stained, with minimal bleeding into a few margins); an excellent set.

'Adelaide Educational Institution Prize' is stamped in gilt on the front covers; loosely inserted is an 1865 prize plate.
