John Barclay Godson Bookplates

Melbourne, Printed 'under the supervision of Major W.D. Joynt, V.C., at his Colarts Studios' and 'designed and published by Lieutenant G.C. Ingleton R.A.N.' [under the Golden Lantern Press imprint], July 1933.

Small octavo (177 x 133 mm), [40] pages (first and last leaves blank) with the publisher's device in red on the title page, a wood-engraved self-portrait of the artist, a two-colour design [by Geoffrey Ingleton] at the rear, 10 tipped-in original bookplates by Godson ('from the original copper plates and wood blocks'), and a tipped-in two-colour acknowledgements slip.

Plain quarter cloth and blue textured-paper boards with a tiny paper title-label ('J.B.G. Bookplates') mounted on the front cover, all edges uncut; covers a little mottled, with the extremities lightly rubbed; endpapers offset; an excellent copy.

The short (three-page) introductory essay is by Camden Morrisby. With the two-colour bookplate (by George Perrottet, 1942) of horticulturalist, naturalist and author Edward Edgar Pescott (1872-1954), and his pencilled surname signature on the title page. Number 117 of only 150 copies (with the first 60 reserved for the New South Wales Bookplate Club).
