A collection of separately issued booklets relating to South Australian properties featured in the important series of volumes, 'Pastoral Homes of Australia'

The seven substantial quarto volumes were published in Sydney between 1910 and 1931. The first four volumes were published by 'The Pastoralist's Review' between 1910 and 1914; the three volumes of the New Series were published by 'The Pastoral Review' between 1929 and 1931. Featured properties were each given twelve pages of well-illustrated text, and it would appear that unpaginated sections, attractively presented in cord-bound wrappers with the name of the property, its owner and the publisher in gilt on the front cover, were made available to the owners for distribution to family, friends and colleagues. On offer as one lot are the separately-issued booklets relating to nineteen South Australian properties; eight of the booklets were prepared for the first series of volumes, the remaining eleven for the New Series. The cover titles of the latter are Anlaby; Ben Lomond; Buckland Park; Canowie, Sheaoak, Oraparinna and Wilkatana; The Glen; Keyneton and Weroona; Koomooloo, Sturt Vale & Wahroonga; Millbrae, Native Valley and Sturtbrae, Sturt; Munduney & Moralana; Padthaway & Lake Roy; and Struan. The cover titles of the former are Anama and Nombi; Bungaree; The Canowie Stud; Gums; Nalpa; Rhine Park and Cappeedee; Sheoak Hills and Pitcairn; and Wilgena, Wooltana, &c. The Canowie Stud booklet is in a variant binding that would appear to have been produced for (or by) the property itself; there is no reference to its source publication, and the words 'A Souvenir' appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the cover. Of far more interest, however, is the fact that three of them - Anama and Nombi; Nalpa; and Wilgena, Wooltana, &c. - do not appear in any of the published volumes. Only the fourth volume of the first series contained any South Australian properties, and it may well be that the outbreak of war put paid to plans for any further volumes in the series. Fifteen years later, when the project was revived, the information on these properties would have been obsolete ... We have been unable to inspect the third volume of the New Series, but to the best of our knowledge, the only South Australian property in the published volumes not included in the collection on offer here is Mt Crawford (see pages 367-378 in the final volume of the first series). Apart from trifling marks and creases to a few covers, the entire collection is in superb condition.
